Where does my donation go?
To the Kitchener Centre Conservative Electoral District Association (EDA), the local Conservative team that supports Kelly. It pays for local organizing: community events, outreach, communications and getting ready for elections. Kelly's work as an MP is funded by the House of Commons; donations don't go to her MP office.
How does the tax credit work?
Contributions to a federal party or its EDAs earn a federal tax credit: 75% of the first $400 you give in a year, 50% of the next $350 and 33⅓% of the next $525, up to $650 a year. It is non-refundable (it lowers the federal tax you owe) and is based on all your federal political contributions in the year.
Why give monthly?
Your monthly gift keeps the work going all year, not only at election time: events booked, materials printed and volunteers trained, month after month. $20 a month adds up to $240 a year, and could cost you as little as $60 after the tax credit: $5 a month.
Who can donate, and how much?
Canadian citizens and permanent residents can give from their own money; corporations, unions and associations can't. Elections Canada sets a yearly limit on what one person can give, and this form accepts up to $1,795 at once or $145 a month.
