You just did a press release on the Data Protection Act and we haven't had any debriefing as the opposition on this and so it's very new that I'm hearing about it, but the first question I'd like to ask though is that it looks like you might be putting the onus on industry to protect our data. If we have no sovereign cloud, how are you going to govern that if it would then fall under the U.S. Cloud Act? Mr. Chair, I appreciate that the honourable member is in a difficult circumstance because we literally just tabled the bill and I'm happy to have any ongoing conversations. Obviously, we want your feedback and I appreciate that. Two things on that. Number one, the piece of legislation protecting Privacy and Consumer Data Act is very clear on the regulations of how Canadians' private information is going to be treated and it will be setting up, as many have called for, a regulator using the same regulator for the Digital Safety Act, Safe Social Media Act rather. That regulator will have enforcement powers to keep Canadians safe and to make sure that private information is safe. As to the second part of your question, for cross-border, I think you were asking about if data crosses border, does it keep? Chain of custody is really important and any company that is, you know, data travels, they will have to have a privacy impact assessment that they will have to fill out. The onus is not on the businesses. They have clear rules, privacy impact assessments on how they treat information and the regulator can ask for it if there's a complaint. But I think everybody, it's common sense, that we want to know how, when we're giving our personal information to a company, we want to know how they're treating it, even that it's safe when it crosses borders.
