The urgent need to gain talent is an admission we have been, and currently are in, a brain drain. The root cause of which I asked about, how will the government specifically safeguard patents to support domestic production and commercialization? Re-gaining talent means nothing if the government doesn’t put guardrails in place on research investment to ensure the IP they create stays sovereign. Otherwise, it’s a net negative return on tax payer investment. #kitchenercentre #innovation #ip

The second pillar was create and so there's been a lot of claims today that our innovation ecosystem is alive well and healthy but the reality of that is just completely untrue. So we don't have the infrastructure for our computing capacity that we need. We only hold 12% of our Canadian our own Canadian patents while 87% become foreign owned. Our commercialization is limited costing us 75 billion yearly, 2.7 of our GDP and 5 billion in lost tax revenue and these failures are leading to a brain drain which is our talent is leaving our country because we cannot commercialize. So what is your what is your file doing to protect our intellectual property generated here in Canada and control our licensing terms that enables our own commercialization and sustained manufacturing. So I think that when it comes to brain drain like you mentioned I really think we're in a brain gain mode right now and that is why we came up with a talent attraction strategy and we're seeing already universities have been calling us I've been having contacts with many presidents of universities a lot of people I must say particularly from south of the border are looking to go north so that's a first point. Again minister I'm sorry to interrupt I apologize but you're not answering my question my question is is what are you doing to safeguard our intellectual property and support our manufacturing that was the question please answer.

Ms. Joly, I'm going on to a new question, because I didn't get an answer and I don't want more of my limited time taken away. The second pillar was “create”. There have been a lot of claims today that our innovation ecosystem is alive, well and healthy, but the reality is that … Read more

Recently, I was on @cbckw891 with @craignorriscbc Craig Norris and I got the chance to talk about U.S. President Donald Trump and how his actions have affected Kitchener Centre. Because Canadians have not gotten the trade deal with the U.S. that they were promised, the auto wor… Read more

kers in Kitchener are feeling it. Canada used to be the leader in EV technological innovation and Canada makes the best cars. Unfortunately, this government instead made a deal with China that floods Canadian markets with China made EVs. I believe in Canada’s auto sector and I believe that Canada makes the best cars and for the sake of our auto workers, I hope this government does too. #kitchenercentre #auto #ev
