s voluntary, free initiative focuses on counselling and support, helping men understand the roots of their abusive behaviour and choose a new path forward. As Det. Const. Andrea Gilker of the Waterloo Regional Police Service said, “When we help them, we help their partners. It’s good for everybody.” This is the kind of community-based innovation that truly makes a difference. At the federal level, Conservatives are also taking action to end domestic violence. My colleague Frank Caputo, MP for Kamloops-Thompson-Cariboo, has introduced a new private member’s bill C-225 that passed second reading. The bill would classify the murder of an intimate partner as first-degree murder in all cases, create a new offence for assaulting an intimate partner, and Allow judges to order risk assessments for individuals charged with intimate partner violence while on release. eeps people trapped in addiction and focus on abstinence based rehabilitation; take the billions we are spending to manage misery and invest them instead in 50,000 real treatment beds, medical detox, and recovery housing; and sue the drug companies that flooded our country with poison to help pay for it. There is hope for a better quality of life in abstinence based rehabilitation.
