Thank you, Mr. Speaker. Earlier tonight, the parliamentary secretary said that us conservatives play games. That is so far from the truth. On his side of the House, he can play tic-tac-toe or Scrabble. That's his business. I do want to thank my colleague for his speech, especially some sensitivities within the speech. But, conservatives, we are here for the victims of crime. We work long hours on behalf of Canadians for public safety, for the justice system. As I said earlier, the parliamentary accused us of playing games. My question to my colleague is, why is it the Liberal government is removing mandatory minimums where the judges can use that with time served or just give a criminal that's found guilty one day of a sentence? The point I'm getting at is, why is the Liberal government giving the honourable member a Kitchener Centre? Thanks for the question to my colleague. Listen, I just want to talk about some of the consequence of not having these defined as what sentencing should be because of C5. There was a drug smuggler caught with 55 grams of cocaine while on bail, a waiting sentencing for previous and gun offences, received as a sentence of only 12 months, half of what the judge said his crimes deserved, partially because of his immigration status. The Ontario judge cut his sentence in half for the offender facing significant likelihood of deportation because he was already serving a six-year prison sentence in Canada for trafficking fentanyl and gun-related offences. The judge wrote in their decision, Mr. Rush is not a Canadian citizen and he is likely to be deported as a result of these offences. This is a significant collateral consequence. It is. And the consequence should have been served and he should have been removed.

My story is not unique. Across Canada, there are people battling addiction who need support, accountability, and a path forward. That’s why I introduced Bill C-240, which would expand rehabilitation opportunities and help break the cycle of addiction and crime.

Over the past week, I’ve been able to reflect on everything that happened this session. From standing up for taxpayers and pushing for affordability to meeting with residents and local organizations across Kitchener Centre, it’s been a busy and productive few months!
