It is very important for all levels of government to work together to try and end the drug crisis in this country. The stakeholders and experts I’ve spoken with across addictions and mental health are very clear: the evidence supports abstinence based rehabilitation. Recovery means helping people learn to live, cope with stressors, and emotionally regulate without substances, supported by an abstinence based community. They have not told me perpetuating addiction through taxpayer-funded drugs is the solution.

I really want to thank my colleague for showing such passion on such a critical issue that's costing lives of Canadians. We've heard from Chief Medical Health Officers, Chief Corners, Chiefs of Police, First Nations Health Authority, and Mom Stop the Harm. They've all been consistent in saying that we need to get politicians out of the way. We need to support evidence-based and expert-led policy, not ideology, and we need to move rapidly. Does my colleague agree that it's time for politicians to get out of the way? In Portugal, that's the big success story. The politicians got out of the way, and they supported the experts in implementing a policy that supported treatment-on-demand, recovery prevention, and drug replacement therapy, but it was led by experts, not politicians. They got out of the way, but they had a plan with a timeline, and they put in the resources to take on their crisis, and they went from over 1,000 people dying a year to 70, so we know we can do it. To give a chance for the Minister of Kitchener's Senate to respond. The Honourable Member has 35 seconds or less. I think that we do need to work together. All governments need to work together to find a solution to this crisis. I think that it is the Liberal government that perpetuated this crisis, though, and they put a million dollars into making it worse. And so we do need to focus on rehabilitation and recovery. I agree completely with what you're saying, but I also think that we need to all collaborate and really work together to find solutions, real solutions, rehabilitative solutions for our citizens.

Though recently established, Frontline Recovery has already helped individuals access treatment and support through its Help Line, social media outreach, and in-person engagement. I had the privilege of attending the See Me Hear Me Conference hosted by Cambridge Mayor Jan Liggett, a powerful and eye-opening event that brought together voices from across our region to talk about the urgent need for change in how we approach rehabilitation. The stories shar… Read more

ed were raw and real, highlighting the gaps in our systems that too often fail to support people in rebuilding their lives. This wasn’t about enabling, it was about accountability, healing, and ensuring that rehabilitation is more than a word. It’s about action, outcomes, and support that truly helps people move forward. I’m committed to carrying these conversations into my work in Parliament. We need policies that prioritize effective rehabilitation, protect communities, and give people the tools they need to change their lives for the better. Thank you to Mayor Liggett and all the courageous voices who made this conference so impactful. Your leadership is helping drive the change we need.
