Kelly DeRidder on Advocacy for Kitchener Centre in the House of Commons

This page collects Kelly DeRidder's work in Ottawa on behalf of Kitchener Centre. It includes speeches in the House of Commons, letters to ministers, and posts about her meetings and events at home.

Housing is a clear focus. Kelly has written to the federal government in support of Kitchener's Fire Station 8 project, which would create 281 affordable homes and build them together with emergency services. She has also spoken about barrier-free homes for people with disabilities, and about prevention and recovery as ways to address youth homelessness. Her Private Member's Bill C-240 supports abstinence-based recovery, and it passed second reading in the House of Commons unanimously.

You will also see her work on local jobs and community concerns. She has highlighted Kitchener's innovation sector and the need for Canadian companies to be part of federal procurement. She hosted a CUSMA roundtable on trade and held a town hall on social media legislation at Doon Pioneer Park Community Centre. She also sponsored a petition on local journalism after 570 NewsRadio ended broadcasting, and she met with Camino Wellbeing + Mental Health about its Path to Education program.

Thank you, Chair. Mr. Kovrig, a lot of members of my community have reached out to my office because they're worried about their jobs. They're a part of the larger ecosystem with auto manufacturing and what's happening with the decline in our auto industry right now. I am speak… Read more

House of Commons: Oral Questions — Taxation

Mr. Speaker, Canadians are struggling with the rising gas prices while the government keeps piling on taxes, taxes and more taxes. Kitchener Centre families are paying more at the pump. Our seniors are worried about driving to see their grandchildren. Our workers have to pay more… Read more

just to get to work, on top of the rising cost of everything else. Why will the Prime Minister not adopt our Conservative plan and reduce the gas tax? It will save 25¢ per litre for Canadians to give them the relief they deserve.

A convenience store robber gets house arrest. Where is the rehabilitation? If we’re serious about breaking cycles of crime and addiction, sentences must include real recovery. That’s what my Private Members’ Bill, C‑240, and MP Luc Berthold’s C‑231 aim to do.

Thank you to Key Metrix Rehabilitation for a productive meeting on rehabilitation and workforce recovery. These conversations directly support the goals of my private member’s bill, C-240.

My thoughts are with this WRPS officer - wishing him a speedy recovery. This is the reality of our drug crisis. My Private Member’s Bill, C-240 is about accountability, real rehabilitation and harsher consequences for large-scale fentanyl traffickers.

Facebook · April 4, 2026

Recovery works best when the goal is clear: getting people drug‑free. Abstinence‑based treatment delivers real recovery, stability, and long‑term hope. My private member’s bill, C‑240, directs the system toward structured rehabilitation and measurable recovery outcomes.

Facebook · April 2, 2026

Keeping people in addiction and calling it compassion is not the answer. My private member’s bill, C-240, puts recovery first, walking alongside people no matter their path. Canadians deserve a system that removes obstacles to healing, not keeps them trapped.

Facebook · March 31, 2026

There is no such thing as “safe drugs.” Government-funded supply keeps people trapped in addiction. My private member’s bill, C-240, pushes for recovery. Conservatives choose treatment, recovery, and hope. Canadians deserve a path to healing, not prolonged pain.

Another drug trafficking ring taken down by our brave officers doing the hard work to keep our communities safe. Over $1M in drugs, cash & weapons to be shipped overseas. That’s why my Private Member’s Bill, C-240, is needed to deliver real consequences and pathways to recovery.

les, complete training, and properly register their firearms - is not the solution to rising gun crime. These individuals are not the source of the gun crime in our communities in the first place - so gun crime won't go down. If we are serious about public safety, our focus must be on criminals and illegal firearms coming in accross the U.S. border, not responsible citizens. With the vast majority of crime guns traced back to the United States, resources should be directed toward securing our borders and addressing the root causes of gun violence.
